Artist Statement – Resurrection
Forged from old, bent railroad ties and a car part—objects once built for the weight of industry and progress—Resurrection rises from rust and ruin into a symbol of endurance. Among the twisted remains, a single upright tie stands tall, its weathered surface sprouting wings of steel. What was once broken, discarded, and corroded has now transformed into an emblem of renewal.
This work speaks to the fragile but enduring hope that industrialization and democracy, though battered and bent, can rise again. The wings are not polished or perfect; yet their presence insists on the possibility of flight. In a time when institutions seem rusted and trust is fractured, Resurrection reminds us that renewal is not about returning to what was, but about reimagining what can be built from what remains.
Hope, like steel, may corrode but does not vanish. In standing tall amidst the ruins, this sculpture embodies the resilience of the human spirit and the unyielding belief that freedom and American exceptionalism can be reclaimed.
