Artist Statement: Unity

Unity is a sculpture forged from square and rectangular steel tubes, joined together in deliberate balance, like a DNA symbol. The composition suggests strength through connection: separate pieces relying on one another, standing only because they support and are supported in turn. Its geometry evokes bipartisanship—two halves forming a whole, differences held together by shared center.

Yet the title is ironic. At a time when America desperately needs reconciliation, President Donald Trump has chosen division. Instead of binding the country across its political fractures, he thrives on stoking them—vilifying critics, demeaning institutions, and openly jailing his opponents. Where the sculpture shows steel locking together, the reality is a leader intent on tearing the pieces apart.

Unity is meant to be aspirational as much as critical. It demonstrates what is possible: disparate parts forming something stronger when united. But it requires compromise, respect, and the willingness to see political rivals not as enemies, but as fellow citizens.
